VTK Python for Data Science

The Visualization Toolkit (VTK) is an open-source, freely available software system for scientific visualization. Initiated in 1993, the library is now available in version 9.0.1 and is already used in various applications: ParaView, 3D Slicer, PyVista,vedo,TTK,F3D, … and it can even be used in Blender and Unity.In this training, we will use python to interact with VTK (and some other libraries) to create simple data analysis pipelines, and we will see how to create simple filters for custom processing.
This training is tailored for people with basic knowledge of Python.

  1. Understand and develop a pipeline with VTK
  2. Visualize and process 2D / 3D data
  3. Visualize and process higher dimensional data (with TTK)
  4. Create your own processing filter

Python: Basic knowledge

This training course will be taught in English. Course notes are also in English.

The instructor will communicate all the specifications required to each participants before the training session.

Meet the instructor

Charles joined Kitware in February 2016.

For the first three years, Charles worked on its PhD on the topic of “High Performance Level-set based Topological Data Analysis”, where he became one of the main contributors of the Topology ToolKit (TTK).

After defending in February 2019, Charles joined the Scientific Visulization team. He now works on several projects at Kitware involving parallel programming, discrete geometry and data analysis algorithms.
